Post About Japan #1 : Jet Lag Chronicles

Because I am stopping in Japan for 6 nights on the way to Korea, I am going to go ahead and write one large post about the going-ons in Japan. Originally I flew MCI → LAX → NRT. For the long part of the flight (LAX to NRT) I was with Korean Air. And I definitely have to say, that had to have been the best flying experience I have ever had.

To start with, right when we walked in there was a free bottle of water on the seats, along with the blanket and pillow that they provided for the flight. The seats were comfortable as far as economy airplane seats go. Each of the seats had it's own touch screen TV screen, with movie options like Sucker Punch, Rio, several Japanese movies and quite a few Korean ones as well. There were also a ton of games and other things like that. The meals were also amazing, and the 'dinner' was bibimbap, 'breakfast' was meat buns, and lunch was fried rice with chicken and vegetables. All of it was actually really good.

For once in my life I actually managed to sleep on the plane... which I am now regretting. Because I slept on the plane, I wasn't able to fall asleep at a normal time here in Japan, and I'm still having jet lag pretty bad. It is currently 4am, and I am wide awake. xD

However, for my first full day in Japan, I spent most of the morning sitting around and watching interesting TV. But around lunch time I was determined to do something despite being exhausted and went out to Shin-Okubo, an area known for being the Korean Town of Tokyo. There were many idol shops that sold non-official goods like keychains, folders, pillows, mugs and pictures with pictures of Korean idol bands on them. They also had the official CDs of the groups. I ended up buying U-Kiss's new album (the one with Neverland on it), a pen with Infinite's Sunggyu and Woohyun on it, an Infinite keychain and an Infinite phone charm.

After that I went to my favorite restaurant, Saizeria. It's an Italian family restaurant chain in Japan, like Olive Garden... but much cheaper and tastier. I got a decent sized plate of pasta and unlimited drinks (it does cost extra here) for a bit less than 500 yen, which at the current exchange rate is $6.50. If this had been three years and two months ago, it would have been less than $5, but that's not really something that can be helped.

After that I was so exhausted I was feeling dizzy, so I decided to make my way back to my hostel. When I got back I was at first determined to try and stay awake until evening in Japan to try and fix this jet lag... Obviously it did not work well. I gave up and fell asleep at around 3:30pm and then woke up at 11:45pm. I rolled around for a bit before sleeping for another hour around 1am to 2am, but then I woke up again and here I am.

Hopefully this jet lag gets better soon.

  1. I'm really jealous right now!! I hope you have a great time in Korea :D I'll try keeping up with your blog and see how things go for you. Hopefully I'll be able to make a trip of my own over there sometime in the future. Good luck and enjoy Japan!!
